On Thursday 8th March 2018 a Representative from Robert Bruce, our Blazer supplier, will be at the College to fit out any Year 7 Student requiring a Blazer and for any other students requiring a new Blazer. Full or Partial Payment is required at the time of fitting, so please return the completed order form with payment. Order forms must be received for Blazers by Thursday 8th March, 2018.
On 12 December last year, I received a call from the Rural Fire Service (RFS) seeking the College’s support for the carrying out of testing on an open section of ground on the far western side of the driveway that leads to the main building known as ‘The Grotto’, and around the decommissioned Handball/Squash Courts. This was part of a state-wide testing program on sites used by local RFS brigades for firefighter training to determine if traces of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances known as ‘PFAS’ existed on the site. As you may be aware, the bushfire season for 2017 commenced on 1 September 2017. In preparation for the season, a bushfire assessment of our school has been undertaken by Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta (CEDP). St Columba’s Catholic College has been identified as a school at increased risk if a bush fire were to break out on a day when a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is issued for our area. In July 2016, the Minister for Education announced the Stronger HSC Standards reforms. These reforms included the requirement for students to demonstrate a minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to be eligible for the HSC from 2020. Students in Yr 9 2017 are the first cohort who will need to demonstrate this minimum standard of literacy and numeracy to be eligible to receive their HSC.
The Year 12 Half Yearly HSC Assessment Period will take place between Monday 13th March and Wednesday 22nd March 2017. During the Assessment Period normal timetabled classes will cease. The proposed new Enterprise Agreement was sent to all Catholic school staff and the Independent Education Union (IEU) today, Monday 7 April to begin a process of consultation to consolidate a number of existing agreements into a single state-wide agreement which supports high quality contemporary teaching and learning.
St Columba’s Catholic College and St Thomas Aquinas Primary, Springwood was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Blue Mountains combined emergency services in recognition of assistance provided to emergency services through the evacuation of the school during the bushfire event on the 17 October 2013.
